Bluefin tuna, (lat. Thunnus thynnus) is the largest, rarest and most valuable representative of this fish family. Tuna lives in the Atlantic Ocean and enters the Mediterranean Sea for reproduction. It is caught in the open sea within the timeframes permitted by ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas) and delivered to a farm in the Aegean Sea, where it is grown.
The fish is bred in special cages at a depth of 35 meters. Every day, the tuna is fed sardines, snails and mackerel until it reaches 350-400 kg.
Tuna is caught, cleaned and cut on ships, after which the product is supplied chilled or frozen to consumers from all over the world.
Sputnik is included in the list of approved tuna importers by the Regional Tuna Fisheries Management Organization, responsible for the management and conservation of tuna and tuna-like species in the Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas.
For each shipment, we receive a signed certificate of origin and place of shipment of tuna.
